About the role

The BIM Modeler builds and maintains the Revit models behind our drawing sets. You will turn design sketches, redlines and consultant input into accurate, well organized models, produce the sheets that come out of them, and keep each model clean enough that coordination and late changes stay fast. You will report to [the project architect or BIM manager] and work on [two or three] projects at a time.

What you will do

Build and update architectural Revit models from sketches, redlines and design direction, at the level of development each phase calls for.
Produce plans, sections, elevations, details and schedules directly from the model, and keep every sheet consistent with it.
Create and edit Revit families (doors, windows, casework, fixtures) that follow our naming and parameter standards.
Link structural and MEP consultant models and run clash checks in Navisworks before each coordination meeting.
Log clashes and model issues with clear views and locations, and follow each one until it is resolved.
Pick up redlines from architects and engineers and turn them around by the agreed deadline.
Keep models healthy: review warnings, purge unused content, manage worksets and links, and watch file size.
Follow the project BIM execution plan and our templates, view naming and sheet numbering.
Export models and sheets in the formats consultants and contractors ask for (DWG, IFC, NWC and PDF).
Flag missing information and design conflicts to the project architect early instead of guessing.

What you bring

Solid knowledge of how buildings go together: walls, floors, roofs, openings and the details that connect them.
Comfort working from redlines, sketches and consultant models with little supervision.
Experience with worksharing: central or cloud models, worksets, synchronizing and linked files.
Working knowledge of US drawing conventions: imperial units, sheet numbering and annotation standards.
Clear written English for issue logs, emails and model notes.

Skills test

BIM Modeler skills test

Model and document a small addition. A practical exercise to send after the first interview. Time limit: 3 hours.

The task

Send the candidate a PDF floor plan and one elevation of a small single story addition, with dimensions. Ask them to model it in your Revit template and produce a floor plan sheet, one building section and a door schedule. The point is to see how they model and document inside your standards, not how fast they can draw.

What to send the candidate

Your Revit template, or a stripped version of it.
A PDF plan and elevation of the addition, dimensioned.
Your view naming and sheet numbering standard, if it is written down.

What to evaluate

Walls, floors, roof and openings modeled with the right categories and clean joins.
Levels, dimensions and heights that match the PDF.
Sheets that come from the model, with views placed and named to your standard.
A door schedule that reads from the model, with no manual overrides.
Assumptions written down wherever the drawings were unclear.

Tell the candidate how you will score it and hold to the time limit. The goal is to see how they work, not to get free production.

What software should a BIM Modeler know?

For architecture work, Revit comes first: it is where the model, the families and the sheets live.
